Mercedes-Benz owners who wish to replace their factory stereo units will first need to remove the stock head units from their vehicles' stereo mounting docks. The Mercedes dashboard dock comes in two separate designs. The method of removing the original stereo is different for each of them. One design uses extraction tools (two thin keys that slide into openings on either side of the stereo).
After the keys are fully seated inside the head unit, they are used to pull the stereo from the dash. The second style of dashboard dock is more difficult to remove, but a car audio novice can do it in under an hour.
